Golden Gourmet Shallot Sets are a reliable autumn planting variety, producing attractive golden-brown shallots with a rich, sweet flavour. This 250g pack is ideal for gardeners looking to grow their own shallots in vegetable plots, raised beds, allotments and kitchen gardens.

Plant from September to November in a sunny, open position with firm, well-drained soil. Autumn planting allows the sets to establish before winter, helping produce an earlier crop the following summer. Golden Gourmet shallots are perfect for everyday cooking, adding depth and sweetness to roasting, sauces, soups, stews, salads and savoury dishes.

Short planting guide:
Prepare the soil by removing weeds and breaking up large clumps. Plant each shallot set with the pointed tip just showing above the soil surface. Space sets around 15cm apart, leaving 30cm between rows. Water after planting and keep the area weed free while the shallots establish.

Growing tips:
Avoid planting into freshly manured soil, as this can encourage soft growth. Protect newly planted sets from birds until they root firmly. Water during dry spells in spring, but avoid waterlogged soil. Harvest from early to mid-summer once the leaves begin to yellow and bend over naturally.
