Overview

Lily Honeymoon

Lily 'Honeymoon' is a breathtaking, fragrant lily variety known for its large, soft yellow blooms that add a touch of romance and elegance to any garden. With its tall stems and graceful flowers, this Oriental Trumpet hybrid is perfect for borders, beds, and large containers. Blooming from midsummer to early autumn, 'Honeymoon' creates a stunning focal point and pairs beautifully with other flowering plants. Ideal for cut flower arrangements, it brings a delightful scent indoors as well. Hardy in the UK with proper care, this lily is a fantastic choice for adding beauty and fragrance to any outdoor space.

The blooms of Lily 'Honeymoon' are a soft, buttery yellow, with each flower measuring up to 15-20cm in diameter. The petals are slightly recurved, revealing a central star pattern, and emit a sweet, intoxicating fragrance. The large, trumpet-shaped flowers sit atop tall stems reaching up to 120-150cm, creating a majestic display that is sure to capture attention. The blooms provide a luminous, delicate colour that brightens up the garden and complements a variety of planting schemes.

How to Grow
Planting: Plant 'Honeymoon' lily bulbs in spring or autumn in a sunny to partially shaded location with well-drained, fertile soil. Choose a sheltered spot to protect the tall stems from strong winds. Plant bulbs 15-20cm deep and space them 20-30cm apart for a full and lush display.
Watering: Water well after planting to help the bulbs establish. During the growing season, keep the soil consistently moist but avoid waterlogging. Lilies prefer well-drained conditions, so ensure the area does not stay too wet.
Feeding: Feed with a balanced fertiliser in early spring as new growth begins, and again as the flowers start to develop. This will encourage strong growth and healthy blooms.
Staking: Due to its tall stems and large blooms, 'Honeymoon' may require staking in exposed or windy areas. Insert stakes when planting to avoid disturbing the bulbs later, and tie the stems loosely to support the flowers as they grow.
Deadheading and Maintenance: Remove spent flowers to prevent energy from going into seed production and to prolong the bloom period. Allow the foliage to die back naturally after flowering, as this helps the bulb store energy for the next season.
Overwintering: 'Honeymoon' lilies are hardy in the UK, but adding a layer of mulch in late autumn can help protect the bulbs during harsh winters. In particularly cold areas, you may want to dig up and store the bulbs in a frost-free location, though this is generally not necessary.

With its soft yellow blooms, delightful fragrance, and graceful stature, Lily 'Honeymoon' brings a touch of elegance and romance to UK gardens. Perfect for both garden enjoyment and floral arrangements, this lily variety offers a long-lasting, enchanting display from midsummer through early autumn.
