Overview

Kniphofia and Asclepias Mixed Bulbs

The Kniphofia and Asclepias Mixed collection brings a unique blend of vibrant colour and striking form to your garden, with bold, architectural blooms that attract pollinators like bees and butterflies. This mix combines the fiery, torch-like flowers of Kniphofia (commonly known as Red Hot Poker) with the delicate, star-shaped clusters of Asclepias (also known as Butterfly Weed), creating a dramatic display from mid-summer into early autumn. Perfect for borders and wildlife-friendly gardens, this hardy mix thrives in sunny spots and is low-maintenance, making it an ideal choice for gardeners looking to add an exotic flair with minimal effort.

Kniphofia produces tall, spiky flower heads that resemble flaming torches, with shades ranging from deep red to vibrant orange and yellow. These blooms stand atop slender stems, adding height and structure to any planting scheme. Asclepias, in contrast, offers clusters of delicate, star-shaped flowers in shades of orange, pink, or white, creating a soft counterpoint to the bold Kniphofia blooms. Together, they create a striking contrast, with Kniphofia’s fiery spikes complemented by the softer, rounded clusters of Asclepias, providing a blend of structure, texture, and bright colour. Each pack also contains Wildflower 'Butterfly' Mix in a seperate pack, a welcome addition to any garden area

How to Grow
Planting: Plant the Kniphofia and Asclepias bulbs in spring, after the last frost, in a sunny location with well-drained soil. For best results, plant in groups to create a fuller display. Place bulbs approximately 5-10cm deep and space them around 30-40cm apart to allow plenty of room for growth.
Watering: Water the bulbs after planting to help them establish, and continue to water regularly during the growing season, particularly during dry spells. Both plants are relatively drought-tolerant once established but will perform best with consistent moisture.
Feeding: Apply a balanced, slow-release fertiliser in spring to support healthy growth and encourage flowering. Avoid over-fertilising, as this can lead to lush foliage at the expense of blooms.
Maintenance: Remove spent flower heads to encourage further blooming and keep the display tidy. Cutting back faded foliage in late autumn will also help maintain the garden's appearance.
Overwintering: Both Kniphofia and Asclepias are hardy perennials in the UK. In colder areas, applying a layer of mulch around the base of the plants in autumn will provide added protection through winter. In milder regions, they should survive the winter without extra care.
Dividing: Every few years, you may wish to divide Kniphofia clumps in early spring to rejuvenate the plants and prevent overcrowding. This will also allow you to spread these eye-catching plants to other areas of the garden.

The Kniphofia and Asclepias Mixed collection is a wonderful choice for gardeners seeking to attract pollinators and create a vibrant, low-maintenance display. With its unique combination of fiery torches and delicate clusters, this mix brings height, colour, and a touch of exotic beauty to the garden from mid-summer to early autumn.
