Turnip - Milan Purple This traditional Italian variety is as beautiful as it is delicious, producing flat, white roots with a vivid purple shoulder. It is incredibly fast-growing, making it a perfect “catch crop” to sow between slower-growing vegetables. GROWING INSTRUCTIONS: Sow from March to August in soil temperatures of 10–20°C. This is a fast-growing variety with attractive flat roots and purple tops. Sow seeds 1cm deep in drills 30cm apart. Thin seedlings to 10cm apart. Successional sowing every few weeks ensures a continuous supply of young, tender roots. Keep the soil moist to ensure rapid growth. If turns are grown slowly or experience drought, they can become woody and bitter. Harvest when the roots are the size of a golf ball for the best flavor. They can be eaten raw in salads or cooked.
