How to Grow Bulbs
Planting: Plant your Yellow Freesia bulbs in early spring for summer blooms. Choose a sunny, sheltered spot with well-drained soil. Plant the bulbs about 5cm deep and 5-10cm apart, ideally in clusters for a more striking display. Freesias also do well in pots, making them perfect for patios and balconies.
Watering: Water the bulbs after planting to encourage growth, then keep the soil consistently moist during the growing season. Avoid waterlogging, as freesias are prone to rotting in overly wet conditions.
Feeding: Apply a balanced, liquid fertiliser every two weeks once the shoots emerge. This will encourage strong growth and abundant blooms. Stop feeding once the flowers begin to fade.
Support: Freesia stems are delicate and may need support, particularly in windy areas. Use small plant supports or stakes to keep them upright as they grow.
Deadheading and Maintenance: Deadhead spent flowers to encourage more blooms and prolong the flowering period. After flowering has finished, allow the foliage to die back naturally, as this helps the bulbs store energy for the following year.
Overwintering: Freesias are not fully hardy in colder UK regions. In milder areas, you can leave the bulbs in the ground, but in colder regions, it’s best to lift and store them. After the foliage has died back, lift the bulbs, allow them to dry, and store them in a cool, frost-free place until replanting in spring.

With their sunny yellow blooms and exquisite fragrance, Yellow Freesias are a fantastic choice for gardeners who want to add bright colour and scent to their garden, providing a touch of elegance and a burst of joy both outside and indoors.
