Overview

Muscari Bulbs - Blue Blends

Working alongside our supplier we have brought you the very best bulbs available for your gardening enjoyment.

One of the best and most commonly used naturalising bulbs for spring is Muscari. Muscari are very easy to grow, they look excellent in  rockeries, borders or in  flowerbeds, while also being perfect for patio pots and containers if space in the garden is limited. Muscari bulbs can be mixed alongside other spring flowered favourites to make bright beautiful displays.

PLANTING:

Plant August - December

Muscari bulbs thrive in well-draining soil and prefer full sun to partial shade. Select a spot in your garden that receives at least 4-6 hours of direct sunlight per day.

Muscari bulbs prefer moderately fertile soil. Before planting, loosen the soil to a depth of around 6-8 inches and remove any weeds or debris. If your soil is heavy or clayey, consider adding organic matter such as compost to improve drainage.

Dig a hole or trench that is about 2-3 times the depth of the bulb. Space the bulbs about 2-3 inches apart, and plant them with the pointed end facing upwards. Gently backfill the hole with soil, firming it around the bulbs to ensure good soil-to-bulb contact.

After planting, water the bulbs thoroughly to settle the soil and initiate root growth. Muscari bulbs require regular moisture during their growing season, so water them whenever the soil feels dry, but avoid overwatering, as excessive moisture can cause rot.

Apply a layer of organic mulch, such as straw or bark chips, around the planted bulbs. Mulching helps to retain soil moisture, suppresses weed growth, and provides insulation to the bulbs during extreme temperatures.

Remove any weeds that may emerge around the muscari plants, as they can compete for nutrients and water. Once the flowers have finished blooming and the foliage turns yellow and dies back, you can cut it down to ground level.

Muscari bulbs generally don't require much fertilization. However, you can apply a balanced, slow-release fertilizer in early spring as the foliage emerges to provide some extra nutrients for healthy growth.

Over time, muscari bulbs can multiply and form clumps. After a few years, you may choose to divide the clumps in late summer or early autumn, lifting them carefully and separating the bulbs for replanting.

CAUTION: Ornamental bulbs are not edible and can be a skin irritant.
